We have had many people ask us for our registry information. In an effort to try and make it as easy and affordable for everyone, we have registered at myregistry.com. All in all it is pretty easy to use. When we selected items it would select a store to get it from (supposedly the cheapest), but you can ignore the suggestion and get it from where ever you want (online or a physical store). Just make sure you check off that it was purchased. We truly appreciate everyone's excitement, thoughtfulness, and help as we prepare for Sofia's arrival! The direct link to our registry is:

The Name Game
My favorite part about finding out the gender of our baby so early, is being able to call her by name. Kris and I have had many "what will we name our kids" conversations on long car rides over the past 13 years, so it was very easy for us to make our final selection. For us the girl name came easily and has been pretty much decided on for the past, oh, four years I would say. (Little did we know how popular it would become!) The newest addition to our family will be:
Sofia Anne Carranza
Kris and I have always loved the name Sofia. We chose to spell it with an "f" in honor of Kris' full name "Kristofer". The name Sofia is derived from the Greek word for wisdom and is the traditional Spanish spelling of the name.
For a middle name I have always wanted to use Anne, after my all-time favorite book character from Anne of Green Gables. The name Anne is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Anne is "He (God) has favored me" and/or gracious.
We can only hope that we raise our daughter to live up to the meaning of her name: wise and gracious.
She is definitely a girl!!!!!
Yesterday we had our anatomy sonogram. We are happy to report that all organs & skeletal systems are forming well and everything looks great. We also have a 100% confirmation that we are indeed having a baby girl!!!!! I was hoping to post a DVD of yesterdays sonogram, but when we got home to play it, the DVD was blank. Hopefully they will do one for us next time because of the mistake. She wasn't being very cooperative yesterday, but here is the best image we have. It is a close up of her face, I think the sonographer was pushing down on my stomach at the time - that is why she looks squashed against something. (I have identified her features because it is hard to tell what you are looking at!)

Surprises of Pregnancy... Thus Far
So before becoming pregnant I probably read every book there was on pregnancy, watched every baby show on TV (a few times), and listened to a dozen (okay a few dozen) pod-casts. I have learned however that reading/seeing/hearing about pregnancy is entirely different than feeling and experiencing it myself (which, yes, I did read/see/hear that I would feel this way!) I will be 16 weeks along tomorrow, and I can only imagine what is in store for me for the next 24 weeks, but here is what I have been surprised by thus far....
1) I actually get embarrassed by all of the attention. Who would have thought? I am shy by nature, but I thought I would be so happy for the whole world (or my little world at least) to shower me with attention about me and my baby. I do love it, but at the same time it embarrasses me. Huh...
2) You don't just gain a cute baby belly, you gain everywhere (and it's not so cute). I used to hear other women complain about weight gain during pregnancy and I thought "please, it is for your baby and your belly is adorable". What I apparently didn't understand is that under that tent covering that baby belly is a whole squishy body. I am still working out, but Ms. Estrogen is storing fat all the same. Add that to my genetic predisposition to cellulite... and I am dreading bathing suit season! It is so weird to be happy about getting bigger, but hating it at the same time.
3) Feeling pregnant vs. baby (there really is a baby in there). I am sure this will all change once I am huge and our baby girl is kicking my ribs, but there is this separation of "pregnant" vs. "baby". Right now everything feels so focused on my body and pregnancy (symptoms, dos and don'ts, new clothes, aches and pains) that I actually have to remind myself that all of these things happening to me are really a cute, adorable, baby that will be here before we know it. I have these moments sneak up on me that actually make me realize we are having a baby, when one would think I would feel that all the time considering she is inside of me causing all of these changes.... but it just isn't so. When we purchased our stroller, when I received the first tiny clothes, when I see her move on the ultrasound..... I am absolutely elated and it becomes real! It is so hard to explain....
4) Growing. I never realized that something so small could reek so much havoc! When thinking about the baby belly, I knew that it was going to rearrange my insides....someday. Well, that someday starts really early. Everything inside has to rearrange to make room for baby... and surprise... you feel it. You feel stretching, pulling, aching (and not just in your abdomen). The human body is amazing, it just doesn't always feel amazing.
5) Emotions. I feel like I have taken a trip back to puberty. In the early weeks I would have those moments of reflection "did I really say that like it came out? Oops - it sounded like that in my head, but wasn't supposed to come out that way!" I mean - it is totally uncontrollable, thank goodness I think I have that under control again (Kris may have a different opinion) Now the crying has begun. I can cry just like on TV - it just starts - instantly. Some days are more emotional than others, but overall I don't think I've been too bad (Kris don't leave a comment).
6) Looking forward to the future. Since I was a little girl I have always looked forward to being a mom one day. I could always envision it: rocking my baby in my arms, feeding and bathing her, dressing her up in those tiny clothes. Now that it is about to come true, what I am most excited about has shifted. I am so, so, so excited about my future family. All of my "dreams" include sharing her with Kris in a way I didn't even know was possible. The thought of Kris holding her, hugging her, and being daddy's little girl brings tears to my eyes (see, here goes the crying thing again). My husband, without a doubt, will be the most AMAZING father any mother or child could ask for. I cannot wait, absolutely cannot wait until I can pass our little girl to her daddy.
One of those pesky little symptoms of pregnancy is donating my brain cells to the baby, so those are all of the "surprises" I can think of for now (I know I am forgetting some). This next week will be an exciting one in the Carranza house: thanks to some great guys from work our downstairs will be framed on Saturday, we have our "big" sonogram on Tuesday, and we are checking out potential childcare too! So check back for updated pictures and the name announcement (yes we have decided, but we want one more verification that she is in fact still a she.)

We are having a girl!!!!
So (to our complete surprise) we found out today that we are having a baby girl!!!!!!! We really didn't expect to find out the sex this early, but apparently my OBGYN has supper sophisticated machinery and skilled sonographers. She wasn't being very cooperative though - she was a little wiggle worm and kept crossing her legs for the camera (like a lady should of course.) The sonographers were 80% sure it's a girl, but my Dr. said we can start decorating, it's a girl. They took a lot of snap shots today, but here is our favorite (she was being shy):
Some other good news is that the blood clot in my uterus (the "normal" complication) has disappeared - so I am a "normal" patient now. That means I don't get sonograms every two weeks, but fortunately our next one is scheduled for 3/29/2011. This next one is the detailed anatomy scan so we can make sure everything is developing well (but my Dr. says everything looks great so far)! After that one it will be a while before we get to see her again, but hopefully I will feel her soon.
I am ready to start designing the nursery, going through boxes to dig out my old baby clothes & dolls, and start finalizing a name!!!! Stay tuned....

Two Years Later - We're Back!!!!!
Over two years ago I started this blog with one goal in mind - better communication with friends and family. Obviously I haven't been too successful with that. Kris and I have a wonderfully cozy life filled with work, work, and work on the house. We love it, but unfortunately it doesn't make for interesting reading. "Why did you even start a blog then?" you ask... I had hoped that we would soon be sharing exciting news, hence the title The Carranza Family.
Well, after a journey that has (unexpectedly) taken us over two years, I am so excited to announce that the Carranza Family has grown! We are expecting Baby Carranza to arrive at the beginning of September (the due date is the fun date of 9/10/11 to be exact)!!!!!!! Kris and I are absolutely thrilled that we are soon to be parents.
As of this posting I am 13 weeks along and am very happy to see the second trimester. I shouldn't complain as I haven't been as sick as some women, but I am ready for the queasiness and fatigue to go away. So far I have a little tummy pooch, but it is enough to make my pants uncomfortable. I can't wait to start buying some cute maternity dresses so I hope spring temperatures are on the way soon!
Due to a "normal" complication I get to have sonograms every other week, and we love being able to take a peak at the baby and hear the heart beat. It is amazing to see how fast the baby grows and changes each time. Our next sonogram is scheduled for 03/10/2011 so be sure to check back for the latest picture! Family and friends meet Baby C:
Everyone has been asking if we are going to find out the gender, and anyone who knows me knows the answer to that question - YES! We are hoping with these frequent sonograms we will find out as soon as possible - maybe around the first week in April - only a month away!!!! I honestly don't have a gut feeling as to what the baby may be, but Kris does - he thinks a boy. All in all, we just want a happy healthy baby. (But of course I have my nursery schemes ready for both - so I am anxious to find out so I can get started.)
So everyone, stay tuned.... there will actually be new posts this time!
